1 Now these are the nations which the Lord kept in the land for the purpose of testing Israel by them, all those who had had no experience of all the wars of Canaan;

2 Only because of the generations of the children of Israel, for the purpose of teaching them war--only those who up till then had no experience of it;

3 The five chiefs of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites and the Zidonians and the Hivites living in Mount Lebanon, from the mountain Baal-hermon as far as Hamath:
3 Ces nations étaient: les cinq princes des Philistins, tous les Cananéens, les Sidoniens, et les Héviens qui habitaient la montagne du Liban, depuis la montagne de Baal Hermon jusqu'à l'entrée de Hamath.

3 Cinco príncipes de los Philisteos, y todos los Cananeos, y los Sidonios, y los Heveos que habitaban en el monte Líbano: desde el monte de Baal-hermón hasta llegar á Hamath.
3 nämlich die fünf Fürsten der Philister und alle Kanaaniter und Sidonier und Heviter, die am Berg Libanon wohnten, von dem Berg Baal-Hermon an, bis wo man kommt gen Hamath.
4 For the purpose of testing Israel by them, to see if they would give ear to the orders of the Lord, which he had given to their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 Now the children of Israel were living among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites:
5 Et les enfants d'Israël habitèrent au milieu des Cananéens, des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens;

7 And the children of Israel did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and put out of their minds the Lord their God, and became servants to the Baals and the Astartes.
7 Les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel, ils oublièrent l'Éternel, et ils servirent les Baals et les idoles.

8 So the wrath of the Lord was burning against Israel, and he gave them up into the hands of Cushan-rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel were his servants for eight years.
8 La colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les vendit entre les mains de Cuschan Rischeathaïm, roi de Mésopotamie. Et les enfants d'Israël furent asservis huit ans à Cuschan Rischeathaïm.

8 Y la saña de Jehová se encendió contra Israel, y vendiólos en manos de Chusan-risathaim rey de Mesopotamia; y sirvieron los hijos de Israel á Chusan-risathaim ocho años.
8 Da ergrimmte der Zorn des HERRN über Israel, und er verkaufte sie unter die Hand Kusan-Risathaims, des Königs von Mesopotamien; und dienten also die Kinder Israel dem Kusan-Risathaim acht Jahre.
9 And when the children of Israel made prayer to the Lord, he gave them a saviour, Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
9 Les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Éternel, et l'Éternel leur suscita un libérateur qui les délivra, Othniel, fils de Kenaz, frère cadet de Caleb.

9 Y clamaron los hijos de Israel á Jehová; y Jehová suscitó salvador á los hijos de Israel y librólos; es á saber, á Othoniel hijo de Cenez, hermano menor de Caleb.
9 Da schrieen die Kinder Israel zu dem HERRN; und der HERR erweckte ihnen einen Heiland, der sie erlöste; Othniel, den Sohn Kenas, Kalebs jüngsten Bruder.
10 And the spirit of the Lord came on him and he became judge of Israel, and went out to war, and the Lord gave up Cushan-rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia, into his hands and he overcame him.
10 L'esprit de l'Éternel fut sur lui. Il devint juge en Israël, et il partit pour la guerre. L'Éternel livra entre ses mains Cuschan Rischeathaïm, roi de Mésopotamie, et sa main fut puissante contre Cuschan Rischeathaïm.

10 Y el espíritu de Jehová fué sobre él, y juzgó á Israel, y salió á batalla, y Jehová entregó en su mano á Chusan-risathaim, rey de Siria, y prevaleció su mano contra Chusan-risathaim.
10 Und der Geist des HERRN kam auf ihn, und er ward Richter in Israel und zog aus zum Streit. Und der HERR gab den König von Mesopotamien, Kusan-Risathaim, in seine Hand, daß seine Hand über ihn zu stark ward.
11 Then for forty years the land had peace, till the death of Othniel, the son of Kenaz.
11 Le pays fut en repos pendant quarante ans. Et Othniel, fils de Kenaz, mourut.

12 Then the children of Israel again did evil in the eyes of the Lord; and the Lord made Eglon, king of Moab, strong against Israel, because they had done evil in the Lord's eyes.
12 Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel; et l'Éternel fortifia Églon, roi de Moab, contre Israël, parce qu'ils avaient fait ce qui déplaît à l'Éternel.

12 Y tornaron los hijos de Israel á hacer lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová; y Jehová esforzó á Eglón rey de Moab contra Israel, por cuanto habían hecho lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová.
12 Aber die Kinder Israel taten fürder übel vor dem HERRN. Da stärkte der HERR den Eglon, den König der Moabiter, wider Israel, darum daß sie übel taten vor dem HERRN.
13 And Eglon got together the people of Ammon and Amalek, and they went and overcame Israel and took the town of palm-trees.
13 Églon réunit à lui les fils d'Ammon et les Amalécites, et il se mit en marche. Il battit Israël, et ils s'emparèrent de la ville des palmiers.

14 And the children of Israel were servants to Eglon, king of Moab, for eighteen years.
14 Et les enfants d'Israël furent asservis dix-huit ans à Églon, roi de Moab.

15 Then when the children of Israel made prayer to the Lord, he gave them a saviour, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man; and the children of Israel sent an offering by him to Eglon, king of Moab.
15 Les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Éternel, et l'Éternel leur suscita un libérateur, Éhud, fils de Guéra, Benjamite, qui ne se servait pas de la main droite. Les enfants d'Israël envoyèrent par lui un présent à Églon, roi de Moab.
15 Ansin ghlaoigh clann Iosrael ar an Tiarna, agus ardaigh an Tiarna fuasclóir dóibh, Éahúd mac Ghéará, an Biniáimineach, ciotóg. Cheap clann Iosrael é lena gcáin a thabhairt d'Eaglón rí Mhóáb.
15 Y clamaron los hijos de Israel á Jehová; y Jehová les suscitó salvador, á Aod, hijo de Gera, Benjamita, el cual tenía cerrada la mano derecha. Y los hijos de Israel enviaron con él un presente á Eglón rey de Moab.
15 Da schrieen sie zu dem HERRN; und der HERR erweckte ihnen einen Heiland: Ehud, den Sohn Geras, den Benjaminiten, der war links. Und da die Kinder Israel durch ihn Geschenk sandten Eglon, dem König der Moabiter,
16 So Ehud made himself a two-edged sword, a cubit long, which he put on at his right side under his robe.
16 Éhud se fit une épée à deux tranchants, longue d'une coudée, et il la ceignit sous ses vêtements, au côté droit.

17 And he took the offering to Eglon, king of Moab, who was a very fat man.
17 Il offrit le présent à Églon, roi de Moab: or Églon était un homme très gras.

17 Y presentó el presente á Eglón rey de Moab; y era Eglón hombre muy grueso.
17 und brachte das Geschenk dem Eglon, dem König der Moabiter. Eglon aber war ein sehr fetter Mann.
18 And after giving the offering, he sent away the people who had come with the offering.
18 Lorsqu'il eut achevé d'offrir le présent, il renvoya les gens qui l'avaient apporté.

19 But he himself, turning back from the stone images at Gilgal, said, I have something to say to you in secret, O king. And he said, Let there be quiet. Then all those who were waiting before him went out.
19 Il revint lui-même depuis les carrières près de Guilgal, et il dit: O roi! j'ai quelque chose de secret à te dire. Le roi dit: Silence! Et tous ceux qui étaient auprès de lui sortirent.

20 Then Ehud came in to him while he was seated by himself in his summer-house. And Ehud said, I have a word from God for you. And he got up from his seat.

21 And Ehud put out his left hand, and took the sword from his right side, and sent it into his stomach;

23 Then Ehud went out into the covered way, shutting the doors of the summer-house on him and locking them.

24 Now when he had gone, the king's servants came, and saw that the doors of the summer-house were locked; and they said, It may be that he is in his summer-house for a private purpose.
24 Quand il fut sorti, les serviteurs du roi vinrent et regardèrent; et voici, les portes de la chambre haute étaient fermées au verrou. Ils dirent: Sans doute il se couvre les pieds dans la chambre d'été.

24 Y salido él, vinieron sus siervos, los cuales viendo las puertas de la sala cerradas, dijeron: Sin duda él cubre sus pies en la sala de verano.
24 Da er nun hinaus war, kamen seine Knechte und sahen, daß die Tür verschlossen war, und sprachen: Er ist vielleicht zu Stuhl gegangen in der Kammer an der Sommerlaube.
25 And they went on waiting till they were shamed, but the doors were still shut; so they took the key, and, opening them, saw their lord stretched out dead on the floor.
25 Ils attendirent longtemps; et comme il n'ouvrait pas les portes de la chambre haute, ils prirent la clé et ouvrirent, et voici, leur maître était mort, étendu par terre.

27 And when he came there, he had a horn sounded in the hill-country of Ephraim, and all the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he at their head.
27 Dès qu'il fut arrivé, il sonna de la trompette dans la montagne d'Éphraïm. Les enfants d'Israël descendirent avec lui de la montagne, et il se mit à leur tête.

28 And he said to them, Come after me; for the Lord has given the Moabites, your haters, into your hands. So they went down after him and took the crossing-places of Jordan against Moab, and let no one go across.
28 Il leur dit: Suivez-moi, car l'Éternel a livré entre vos mains les Moabites, vos ennemis. Ils descendirent après lui, s'emparèrent des gués du Jourdain vis-à-vis de Moab, et ne laissèrent passer personne.

28 Entonces él les dijo: Seguidme, porque Jehová ha entregado vuestros enemigos los Moabitas en vuestras manos. Y descendieron en pos de él, y tomaron los vados del Jordán á Moab, y no dejaron pasar á ninguno.
28 und sprach zu ihnen: Jagt mir nach; denn der HERR hat euch die Moabiter, eure Feinde, in eure Hände gegeben! Und sie jagten ihm nach und gewannen die Furten am Jordan, die gen Moab gehen, und ließen niemand hinüber
29 At that time they put about ten thousand men of Moab to the sword, every strong man and every man of war; not a man got away.

30 So Moab was broken that day under the hand of Israel. And for eighty years the land had peace.
30 En ce jour, Moab fut humilié sous la main d'Israël. Et le pays fut en repos pendant quatre-vingts ans.

30 Así quedó Moab sojuzgado aquel día bajo la mano de Israel: y reposó la tierra ochenta años.
30 Also wurden die Moabiter zu der Zeit unter die Hand der Kinder Israel gedämpft. Und das Land war still achtzig Jahre.
31 And after him came Shamgar, the son of Anath, who put to death six hundred Philistines with an ox-stick; and he was another saviour of Israel.
31 Après lui, il y eut Schamgar, fils d'Anath. Il battit six cents hommes des Philistins avec un aiguillon à boeufs. Et lui aussi fut un libérateur d'Israël.
